Improved cooling, reduced consumption: Stefani adiabatic operation

There are technical solutions in the industrial refrigeration sector which, despite their simplicity, offer enormous advantages.Adiabatic cooling is one such solution: an economical, efficient and surprisingly effective system for boosting the performance of condensers, dry coolers and gas coolers.

The operating principle is intuitive: the adiabatic system cools the air before it enters the heat exchange coils, increasing the difference (ΔT) between the air temperature and the fluid to be cooled.The result?The machine works more efficiently, faster and consumes less energy.

But that’s not all.By improving the heat exchange, the adiabatic system offers more concrete possibilities:

  • a smaller machine can be installed, achieving the same result with a more competitive investment;
  • Or you can operate the machine at a lower speed, with the fans turning more slowly, resulting in less noise and reduced electricity consumption;

  • alternatively, you can reduce the ΔT keeping the machine and the ventilation the same, to improve the COP (coefficient of performance) of the system.

In all cases, the choice translates into operating efficiency and energy savings, while maintaining the same cooling performance.

Stefani’s adiabatic operation proposal

Stefani has developed three versions to meet various system requirements.

Panel systems
This is the most balanced solution between efficiency, safey and durability.
The cellulose panels are placed in front of the coils and cool the air without directly wetting the exchanger.

Panel system with water recirculation
A variation designed for systems installed in areas with limited water resources. It includes a smart water recirculation system that cuts down on water consumption. It is a particularly useful solution when environmental sustainability is a priority or where regulatory constraints on water are stringent.

Spray system
This is the most competitive solution in terms of initial investment. The principle is still that of pre-cooling the air, but in this case, the water is sprayed at high pressure directly onto the treated coils. This is a solution that requires a more limited use throughout the year and a greater control of the water quality by the customer. It is, therefore, a solution that is only recommended for non-continuous systems, or where the initial costs are the only constraint and where the customer has control over the water quality.

The benefits of Stefani’s adiabatic system

  • Increases performance
    Cools incoming air and increases the heat exchange.
  • Reduces electricity consumption
    Uses less energy to achieve the same cooling power.
  • Makes the machines quieter
    Low-speed fans = less noise when operating.
  • Allows the use of more compact machines
    Same performance, with smaller units and optimised investment.

Beyond gas coolers: the power of adiabatic operation

Not just gas coolers. Stefani’s adiabatic system is also available on dry coolers and condensers with the same goal: to cool incoming air, increase efficiency and reduce consumption and noise, especially during the hottest periods.A comprehensive solution that allows for more compact machines and more sustainable plant management, while maintaining the same performance.
